Provision of 10,000 street lights as Lagos, UK firm sign N2.52bn MoU

LAGOS State government and a United Kingdom (UK) firm, Low Energy Designs (LED) Limited, on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct 10,000 LED street lights covering 300kilometres across the state.

The state governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, while speaking at the signing of the MoU at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, said the partnership, which also includes the provision of about 500 jobs and construction of an LED lighting and Hybrid Energy Power Assembly Plant in Epe, is estimated at $7million (about N2.52billion) to be delivered in the next 12 months.

Apple is developing noise-canceling, over-the-ear headphones that would compete with its own Beats subsidiary, Bloomberg reported Monday. There are plans to release the headphones as early as the end of this year, though challenges with development could delay the release, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.

Nigeria recorded 43 deaths in two months in the lassa fever outbreak

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said in  in its latest report, that Lassa fever has claimed 43 lives in Nigeria, with a total of 615 cases reported across 17 states since the beginning of 2018.
The agency in its weekly epidemiological report for Week 5 said 193 cases have been confirmed positive to the Lassa fever virus giving a case death rate of 23.9 per cent.
The report also stated that since the onset of the outbreak, there has been a high case ‘identification rate’ through the use of ‘standard case definition’ employed via the integrated disease surveillance and response (IDSR) strategy.
